College Application Hiatus

Hello everyone!! So this week is going to be pretty darn hectic for me, as it's the end of our school quarter (teachers are literally  packing these last few days with tests and projects). As if all of these tests and projects weren't enough, add the stress of college applications due Saturday, and you've created one stressed-out girl. Because of my school requirements this week, I thought that I'd take a short college applications and end-of-quarter hiatus, lasting until Monday of next week.

I just wanted to let you guys know before hand, as I feel bad that I won't be able to post the rest of this week. Similarly, if I were to post the rest of the week, I feel as though the content wouldn't be up to my standards, as I wouldn't have the time to thoughtfully write each post.

I'm definitely going to miss posting the rest of this week and will miss you guys, but PLEASE remember to check back in with Girl on the Verge on Monday, as I have some great posts planned that you don't want to miss!!
See you Monday, and wish me luck with finishing all of my school work and applications!

Until Next Time!

The Art of the Senior Quote

10/28/2014

Oh senior quotes. In 140 characters or less, we're somehow supposed to come up with a phrase that not only embodies who we are as a person, but that also brings a close to our entire 4 years of high school. That's a large task! I've really been struggling lately with what I want to convey within my senior quote. Should I quote someone I admire? Should I do a funny quote? A quote from a song? There are SO many options, and I'm simply worried I won't choose the right one for me. The scariest part is that 30 years from now, when my fellow classmates are looking back through their yearbook, that the senior quote I choose will ultimately help them in remembering who I was in high school. SCARY!! Above I've included some of the senior quotes that I'm considering.

Please let me know what you think/which one you like the most.
Also, if you have any senior quote suggestions, they'd greatly be appreciated!!

Storms Don't Last Forever...

Happy Monday my beautiful (and greatly appreciated) readers! This morning I'd thought I'd change things up a bit and talk about something that I try to enforce within my life, and that something is...positive thinking. I'm a huge believer that a great outlook on difficult or stressful situations can make a world of difference (like T. Swift says "Shake it Off"-- this is obvi my new favorite motto). For me, I try to carry out this idea of positive thinking on the daily, but this past week more than ever, (what with college app deadlines quickly approaching, as well as my accumulating school work-load) has really kept me remembering that there will soon be a light at the end of this stress-filled tunnel (and that happy, positive vibes will help me arrive there with less hassle).

The perfect reminder in remaining stress-free?
Storms Don't Last Forever.

What to Watch: The Mindy Project

Fox's "The Mindy Project", has by far been one of my favorite fall television shows this year. Why? More like, why not?! Set in New York (it already has something going for it), this show follows the life of Mindy Lahiri, a gynecologist at a small medical practice (but I can assure you, this isn't your average medical TV drama). I tend to find myself drawn to this show, as Mindy's character is one that I can relate to. Like me, she loves fashion, celebrity gossip, and pop-culture classics (for example, When Harry Met Sally), but she's also an extremely strong and independent woman. Whether you tune in for the laughs, romance, or Mindy's colorfully-fun fashion choices, there's something for everyone to enjoy in watching this Fox hit.

What are some of your favorite fall TV shows?

Fall Trend: {Booties}

10/22/2014

For fall, I find there's nothing better than a good riding boot (I may or may not wear a pair everyday to school #itsaproblem), but lately it seems as though a new shoe has become the fall's trendiest go-to: the bootie! I am a big fan of the bootie, as I find that they are perfect for almost any occasion. Pair them with a scarf and some jeans, and you're ready for a stroll in the park, but put on some tights and a dress (maybe some red lipstick if you're feeling daring), and you're set for a fun night out with your besties. Whatever your occasion, a good pair of booties will keep you looking trendy and put-together: the perfect combo!

Blogger Spotlight: Classy Girls Wear Pearls

10/21/2014

For those unfamiliar with the blogging world, Classy Girls Wear Pearls is what I consider to be pure royalty. Classy Girls Wear Pearls follows the perfectly-preppy adventures of Sarah Vickers and her equally prep-tastic fiancée Kiel James Patrick (who run the darling clothing and accessory company, Kiel James Patrick),  as well as captures all of Sarah's classically-chic outfits. I've been following C.G.W.P. for about three years now, and with each outfit, Sarah surprises me with her ability to transform traditional looks by giving them a modern twist, yet still staying true to the integrity of the classic American fashion she emulates.

Sarah Vickers's style and elegance inspire me daily, and truly prove that class, grace, and sophistication are still prevalent and strive-worthy attributes: and inspiration for sure.

Girl on the Verge's Playlist: Homework

Can we just give one giant sigh of relief that it's finally the weekend? I don't know about you guys, but I thought this past week trailed along at a snail's pace. We can only hope that this weekend goes by as slowly as the week did! Today, I'd thought I'd share with you guys some of my favorite songs I listen to while doing my homework, as I find music to be a fun way of making my time doing homework a little more enjoyable. I tend to stick to slow, mellow songs while working, as I find that relaxing songs allow me to better concentrate on my actual homework, whereas if I were to play songs from the Top 40, I'd be too busy jamming to focus on what I needed to get done. I tried to include some songs that might not be so familiar, because to me, there's nothing better than discovering a new favorite tune. Hope you guys enjoy this list and find it useful for any homework you have over the weekend!

What type of music do you like listening to during homework?
Any suggestions for me? Comment below!!

The "No Makeup" Makeup Trend

The other day as I was flipping through the pages of Harper's Bazaar, I noticed that a lot of the models within the magazine were sporting very minimal, and very fresh makeup looks. I've always believed that makeup should, for the most part, be an extension of your natural beauty. I'm not one to wear makeup to school every day, a) because I simply don't have the time some mornings, and b) because I never want to be that girl to which people say, "Wow, I almost didn't recognize you without all that makeup on!" Therefore, I was very pleased to see that in many of the shows during last month's fashion week, designers opted for a more natural look for their models. In the coming weeks, I plan on going for a more natural look whenever I apply my makeup; who's with me?!

What do you think of the "no makeup" makeup trend?

Evelyn Henson Art Prints

10/16/2014

For a long time, I've seen these adorably charming prints on some of my favorite blogs or Instagrams, and thought they were the perfect decorative piece. The only down side--I didn't know where the heck I could go to get my hands on one of them! Luckily for me, Carly Heitlinger of The College Prepster did a recent post about a collaboration with the art/print-making company--Evelyn Henson. It was here that I found the solution to my art-print cravings. I highly encourage you to check out Evelyn Henson's art pieces; she's seriously talented and all of her prints and paintings are super fun and insanely adorable.
