The 2014 Emmys were this past Monday (the last time they were held on a Monday was sometime in the 70s-crazy!!), and as always there were a few standout garments that I could not stop thinking about. Below I've included these ensembles and my thoughts on each one, why I love them so much, etc. I hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend, and stay tuned, I have some great posts to come!! Let's get into it! Emmy FashionThis was by far one of my favorite looks of the night. I haven't really been a fan lately of the crop-top dress, as it feels a little been there, done that. However, the color and proportions of this ensemble are spot-on and Sarah's styling (ballerina bun, warm makeup, gorg bow earrings), make this outfit something truly special. You can always expect some sort of fashion risk when Kerry Washington is on the red carpet, and that's why I love watching her. And while some may say this dress was a total fashion miss, I think it's quite lovely and rather chic. I commend her for wearing orange (as I think I've tried almost a billion times to do so, and I've never been able to work it), and I additionally love how she matched the gun-metal blue of her sparkly slip-like detail to the color of her eyeshadow. Another "W" in Kerry Washington's book as far as I'm concerned. Taylor Schilling looked radiant in this Zuhair Murad number last Monday on the Emmy red carpet. And although I must say that her dress of choice may not have been the most daring or unique of the night, her ear cuff gave the entire look a much needed edge that made Taylor's look truly noteworthy. America's "sweetheart", Julia Roberts looked utterly sophisticated and gorgeous on the Emmy red carpet wearing Elie Saab Couture. I loved how she went with a short dress for the Emmys (only a select few can pull that off), showing off her killer legs, 'cause hey, if you've got 'em, flaunt 'em. The only thing that I didn't like so much about the outfit were her shoes; I would've liked to see a more modern, less clunky shoe. But besides that, Julia looked like a star! I took a fancy to Lizzy Caplan and her black and white dress of choice for the Emmys. I thought the silhouette of the dress was timeless, and her styling, especially that low bun, were right on the money. Janis Ian looks all grown up and absolutely lovely. I think Sofia looked stunning in this mermaid dress by Roberto Cavalli, and although this dress isn't my favorite of all time, I believe the way in which Sofia wore this garment made it all the more beautiful. Sofia made the dress, the dress didn't make her, which is something I think we can all aspire to! And the award for the world's most jaw-dropping, gorgeous couple goes to these two!! When Matthew and Camila are on a red carpet together, it's like nothing else. They always look chic, always look put together, and always look beautiful. Bravo, brava! *images via e! news online Until Next Time!
M. There are few things more pleasant than a farmer's market on a Saturday morning, when you get past the waking up early on a Saturday of course! A few days ago my mother, sister, and I ventured to our local farmer's market with only sixteen dollars in our pockets, and ended up having a blast looking at all of the great, delicious things our local shops had to offer. One of my all-time favorite stands at our farmer's market is the cheese stand. They sell this basil-mozzarella concoction that is seriously to die for. Some of my other favorite destinations include our local bakery (of course), which always has melt-in-your-mouth chocolate chip cookies, and the fresh produce stand (nothing like organic, ripe-red tomatoes!). I know summer is almost at its close, but I highly encourage everyone, if they haven't yet, to head on down to a nearby farmer's market for some fun local flavor and delicious fare! Until Next Time!
M. Olivia Palermo, the model turned blogger/business woman, is who I envision as the definition of flawless. I like to think of Ms. Palermo (now Mrs. Huebl) as the queen of accessories, as she is always toting an eclectic bag or wearing fabulous footwear, and in doing so, lets her clothing take the back seat while her accessories do all of the talking. Another thing I truly admire about Olivia is her seemingly subhuman ability to take patterns or colors or textiles that no one would ever imagine putting together, and somehow makes them work in a way which makes her appear utterly sophisticated, an extremely difficult task, especially when pairing tan, lime-yellow, and paisley all into one outfit (picture included below). There's no doubt about it, whatever Olivia decides to wear on any given day, she can always find a fan in me! Until Next Time!
M. This past Friday I had the very memorable experience of attending Lollapalooza, a three-day music festival in Chicago. And while I've attended various summer concerts in the past, I can say with absolute certainty that I have never been to one of Lollapalooza's size, grandeur, and/or overall hot, sticky, sweaty chaos. All I can say is that, well, it was quite the experience. I undoubtedly knew going into it that there were going to be those people high off any number of illegal substances, but I don't think I fully prepared myself for what I saw. Not that I'm judging anyone or anything like that, because I fully believe that everyone is entitled to make their own decisions on how they want to live their own lives, but sometimes when you see people so immensely out-of-control of their bodies that they can't function properly, even on the most basic of levels, is when I began to become worried for their own individual health. Other than that, though, I had a rather fantastic time! The concerts were to-die (I saw Eminem, and Rihanna made a surprise appearance that made everyone in the crowd lose their partied-out minds). But without-a-doubt one of my favorite parts of the day, of course, was seeing all of the Lollapalooza attendees' fashion. I loved looking at everyone's varying takes on festival attire; some went a little more wacky with their looks, while others kept it classic and channeled their inner boho goddess, thus making my Lollapalooza experience a treat not only for the ears, but for the eyes as well. Unfortunately I forgot to bring my phone to the festival, so instead of my own photos, I decided to include some of my favorites from refinery29.com below. Aren't they just adorable? *images via refinery29.com Until Next Time!
