I know, I know, I've been seriously slacking in terms of posting lately, but I just finished my two AP tests (hallelujah!!) and I now have so much more time to blog than I did before, and I promise I'll post more frequently. Plus, I have some really good stuff coming up so stay tuned! Also, you guys may have noticed that last Tuesday I didn't post a "Tuesday's Tumbles", which is because I've decided to limit my Tuesday's tumbles now to every month, that way, they aren't every other post here on Girl on the Verge.
Now onto the main purpose of this post...the MET Gala! Ugh the MET Gala. Often called the Academy Awards of Fashion, the MET Gala is a culmination of beautiful and artistic gowns, celebrities, and New York: you could say some of my favorite things in life. Every year, the MET Gala has a theme, and this year's theme was "white tie", a dedication to Charles James, a designer of the 1940s who created stunning, glamorous ballgowns. Sure, the resulting looks might have not been as out there as some of the dresses from last year's "punk" theme, but I rather enjoyed the night's looks. To me, every person on that red carpet looked like they were snatched right from the golden ages of old Hollywood, and were transported to the year 2014.
Let's get into some of my best looks...

I've got to say I was a little unsure at first as to what to think of SJP's Oscar de la Renta number. I mean I loved the gown and thought it was gorgeous, but I was a bit thrown off by that signature. It wasn't until watching my beloved Fashion Police on E! that I was truly able to see the beauty of the signature, thanks to Kelly Osborne, who showed me the humor in it. It's a play off of the fact that the MET Gala is largely about who each designer dresses, and since Oscar couldn't bee there with Sarah, he made it clearly visible as to who designed her dress. Very clever, and very pretty. In my eyes SJP can do no wrong: Queen of the MET Gala.
This girl in unearthly. Blake Lively does it again in this dress by Gucci. I loved her take on 1940s glamour with the wavy curls and the flowing back that attached to the top of the dress. Perfection. Also, her and Ryan Reynolds were the cutest things ever for the entire red carpet. I'm done. Put a fork in me I'm done.
From one Gossip Girl to another...Leighton you're KILLING ME!!! This dress by Emilio Pucci is seriously stunning. On a super-curvaceous bombshell like Kate Upton, this dress would be too revealing, but because Leighton isn't very busty, the low-plunging neckline keeps her look rather classy, and the slit is the perfect height that it doesn't come off trashy. I love her minimal accessories and how her short, chocolate hair accentuates the dress. Minimal chic = A+
Wow is all I have to say about this Marchesa dress worn by Karolína Kurková. This was definitely one of those dresses that as soon as I saw it, made my mouth drop. The detail coupled with the volume and angles of the dress are something truly spectacular. I also thought the color and flower-like pattern were beautiful and went very nicely with her light skin tone.
Hailee Steinfeld has long been one of my favorite young-adult fashionistas, and in this Prabal Gurung dress, she once again wins me over. I love how the siloutte of the dress is very old-fashioned, but the black and white color-blocking of the gown really modernizes the entire look. Very done!!
Which one was your guys' favorite? I'd love to know!
